Our Story

Five Years of Self-Sufficiency: Now Facing a Scaling Challenge

For five years, Community Helpers Unite (CHU) has been Winnipeg's Indigenous-led Social Food Enterprise, proudly self-funded through our signature Indigenous-rooted comfort catering and nonprofit food contracts. As an official partner of La Tablée des Chefs, we've built a Public Health approved system that rescues thousands of pounds of food daily, transforming it into 20,000+ dignified meals monthly for vulnerable communities. We are a proven engine of social change, not a charity.

5,000+
Pounds Rescued Daily
Transforming surplus food into essential nourishment through our daily recovery and upcycling operations.
40+
Strategic Partnerships
Supporting 40+ grassroots agencies with reliable deliveries of culturally appropriate bulk ingredients.
2000
Sq. Ft. Commercial Kitchen
Over 2,000 square feet dedicated to Indigenous-rooted catering and sustainable food upcycling.
6K
Sq. Ft. Warehouse & Hub
Our logistical anchor for recovered food items, providing a centralized distribution point for 20+ grassroots agencies across the region.
20K+
Monthly Meals
Providing 20,000 dignified hot meals & sandwiches every month, distributed through weekly partnerships with over 10 different community outreach walks.
40ft
Smart Cold Storage
Secured via CCC Mb and the Shania Twain Foundation, enabling us to "Say Yes" to large scale fresh food rescues for our 20+ partner agencies.
72-Hour Intervention Model
72-Hour Model
Distributing 300+ Monthly Food & Hygiene Bundles
We currently distribute 300+ bundles via community social workers, providing 900+ days of safety every month. Hunger is a driver of the meth crisis. Our bundles provide a 3-day supply of dignity, 72 hours where someone can focus on mental health & safety instead of survival.
5 Ton+
Recovery Fleet
A 5-ton truck and two cargo vans providing daily, zero-cost food diversion and logistics for our community partners.

But our success has created a critical challenge: community demand has exploded. The need for our services now far exceeds what catering profits alone can sustain. This is a classic supply chain dilemma, demand has outstripped capacity. We need strategic partners to help us bridge this gap and ensure no one is left behind.
